Hey everyone.. we have a bar scene coming... Just wanted some input.. I did a test the other night .. I am using DVX100a with redrock m2... With jsut the bar lights I get bad lighting... any suggestions on what type of lighting I can use for this?

the main scene consists of the main actors sitting at the bar... ALthough I do have a few scenes following them through the bar so lighting will need to be mobile?

any thoughts?

Wow, that is not a lot to go on, but I will give it a shot. I shot a bar scene once and what I ended up doing was using DIY fluorescent lighting for the main portraiture lighting at the bar and used gelled clamp work lights to supplement the neon bar sign lighting in the back ground. The fluorescent lights were Home Depot cheap shop lights, T12, 48" long that I busted apart and made several long single tube lights, with Home Depot tubes, that I placed below the edge of the front bar. This gave a lot of illumination and I was able to get in close to folks behind the bar and in front of the bar and just use some foamcore bounce to light everything up very nice. The back ground was lit with Home Depot scoop clamp lights, placed near the ceiling, and gelled to match the neon lights of the beer signs in the bar. We ended up moving out to a dance floor scene that was lite with a, I think, 650 watt open faced light shooting through a soft box, with back lighting and kickers supplied by the gelled clamp work lights. I put just regular 100 household incandescence bulbs in the clamp lights with primary color gels. They were very handy in that you could put them anywhere and light up what every you want. If I remember correctly, the "Good guy" was lit with back lights and kickers that were red, and the "Bad guy" was lit with back light and kickers that were blue. I remember that we discussed that, with the director, but I don't remember why we choose that scheme.

thanks.. im going to have someone do this for me.. best left up to someone who knows it..
