Lighting in a live environment

I've spent a goodly amount of time poking through the threads here on lighting. Very good stuff. I've also spent time pouring over this B&H catalog, and I wish I had deeper pockets!

I've got a situation I didn't see covered here and I'd appreciate some thoughts from the membership.

I've mentioned previously that part of my job is to shoot corporate type video. One application we do is actually filming for instructional purposes. However, the person in charge of that section is determined to kill two birds with the same stone. So we have to shoot DURING a live teaching session with an audience.

Quarters are fairly tight, and we are in the standard type rooms with ceiling flourescents. My challenge as you may have guessed, is to try to find some lighting solution that will allow me to get reasonable lighting on the subject, fill in the shadows created from the downfiring lights, and try to keep reasonable balance on the subject. Compounding this is the fact that I need to keep the lighting out of the face of the presenter as these are not professionals used to being lit, and I can't do large lighting fixtures or a truss. Permanent lighting is out, at least for now, so I can't put in fixtures.

I was looking at something like the Lowel softbox lights or the Kino Diva. Fairly unobtrusive, but should give me all the light I need to shoot.

If it matters, I'll be shooting 30p, and the presenter will be tied to a podium so I won't have to worry about movement too much.

Your thoughts and expereinces are appreciated.
