Lighting evening scene

Many of the scenes in our short is in the evening, here the evening is very dark, mostly because it's winter so it's like night.

We don't have that many lights, just two redheads and they're a bit to bright it seems (atleast when we look at it on a monitor hocked to the camera(vx1000))

But would it work if we just took a chinese lantern with a 200W bulb + 1/2 ctb filter in one of the small rooms? (in the middle - above)
And maybe the same plus a light from a television+practicals in the living room?

Hope you can decipher what the layout is like

Let me try again.

One of the rooms is pretty small maybe 2-3 meters x 4-5, that's the small room
The living room is as long (4-5meters) but approcamatly as long the other way, then is becomes alittle smaller but that won't be in frame:

Something like that, the black parts are doorways and windows

Your question is a bit open-ended for a forum like this. I would get a lighting book or the kodak master series lighting video.

Yeah, your redheads would be kind of strong, you could try just bouncing them off the ceiling or off some white card. The china ball would be a great tool as well. you might want to skirt some of it with duvateen or black cloth to controll the spill on the walls.

If you have bank, get some white diffusers from a camera store or if not, use window screen...it really works.
