I just picked up the lighting dvd set from Reel Classroom, and for someone that is fairly new to lighting, or just wants to learn some new tips and tricks with lighting, they're some very informative DVD's.
The 1st one goes through all the different lighting equipment, showing you with practical examples the effect of all the equipment and different lights. And also goes through a bunch of grip equipment and how to use it. The DVD also shows you how to properly light a set/actor and ways to accomplish different moods and effects (time of day, location, etc.) It goes through just about every possible way to use a light on set, making it very good for people that don't have much knowledge on lighting.
Other features on the DVD show you how to use gels/etc. for color correction and how to light in different environments.
The 2nd DVD shows you how to light for greenscreens and how to light your background, I haven't finished watching this one yet, but I'd imagine it's excellent if it's anything like the first one.
All-in-all, I'd say this set would be a good buy for any filmmaker that isnt 100% confident with lighting, or even if you are and you just want to brush up on some techniques. There's about 2.5 hours of instruction on the set, and you'll definitly learn a lot from it. Not to mention it's made by a fellow DVXuser...
