Lighting during the Day?

Have a Music Video coming up and the artist inquired about using daytime lighting. Now this is done to eliminate shadows and provide some nice key light when of course shading the talent.

Now my question is this, would you ever do a Music Video without daytime lighting? Or maybe just using some reflectors to bounce and diffuse lights could do the trick?

I am working with a Canon Dslr camera

Thank you

Here is an example we used last week. Silk overhead, Ultra bounce for fill and a 2.5K Par HMI for key.

Do you have a picture of the HMI light as I do not see it? Regardless looks really cool, problem is the scene would have at LEASt 10+ people in it :dankk2:

I will try and find a shot with the PAR in it. To cover that many people you would need a 20X20 silk overhead and a 12X12 bounce, if you were trying to replicate this set up.

Thank you for your Knowledge , it is greatly appreciated ! Unfortunately I do not have a Car to fit something that size, maybe I could rent something like this and have the rental company drop it off.

Thanks

A 20 x 20 overhead with something like a light grid cloth / poly could cover that many performers. Less expensive than a bunch of fixtures, but you'll want to be working when you have full sun. Another frame 8 x 8 or 12 x 12 for bounce / negative fill on the reverse would be helpful too.

You could possibly do it without any lights, but you will be subject to the whims of nature. Lighting is used outdoors when you need continuity between shots that will be cut back to back but were shot hours apart - which sounds like it will be the case with your music video. I just covered this subject in another thread. See "Lighting OUT/DAY, but overcast" at http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?t=213379&page=2.

To what I suggested in that thread, I would add that if you stage your wide shots so that your talent is backlit by the sun you could probably get by without the 20x silk if you had a 4k Par instead of a 2.5k Par.
