Hello I was wondering if there is any software out ther for mac (preferable) or pc that will allow you to map out a bird's eye view of a scene and map out the lighting for that scene? Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

If you have Microsoft Office, you can use Visio. I have had some success with that. Otherwise, you can use pretty much any simple graphics program (for instance PCs come loaded with MS Paint) and just piece it together. Those are some free options anyway.

There is a generalized diagramming program for the Mac called Omnigraffle (http://www.omnigroup.com/applications/omnigraffle/) that has palettes for Film Lighting and Camera Staging which will allow you to do exactly what you are talking about. I can't remember if these particualr palettes are included or you have to download them separately but I do remember they are free. There may even be some newer and more complete add-on palettes available now, as there is a community of independent contributors that develop and post special interest palettes.

Let us know what you think.

Good luck.
