Lighting an Indoor Scene for Night...suggestions?

So as the title states, we're filming a night scene where the main character is asleep in his bed dreaming. So, from what I've read, we're going to use a very soft diffused light source (but enough to gain a proper exposure), and then in post I'll desaturate it and tint it blue-ish. Because we have to film during the day, we're going to be blocking the light coming from the windows. Any other thoughts on how to pull this off?

just throw some blacks over the windows.....

Just use some black trash bags, keep layering them over and over until light is blocked to your desired level.
