lighting a themed event...

Hey everyone,

I'm shooting a project that takes place on the event of "Halloween." The story itself takes place in modern times, but i want the lighting to reflect the ancient times of Halloween with almost like a "ritual" or "goth" like setting. Think style of Sleepy Hollow meets from hell. I know part of that is in set design, but does anyone have any suggestions on how to light it that way?

So we're talking gas lights or fire light then basically right? The first question is do you want a flickering type of effect or just kind of a steady warm color temperature type effect or a moonlight effect outdoors or coming through windows. If the scenes are taking place at night, you'll either have the moonlight kind of effect with lots of shadows or a warmer effect created by some kind of artificial light source (not electrical though) and realism would demand flickering probably because these aren't electrical. A lot to think about there.

something along these styles: These are screen grabs from Halloween 6: The Curse Of Michael Myers...the movie sucks, but the lighting in the film captured the mood and feel that I want for a themed film im doing. hope these help?

I have a Britek kit, 7000 watts, 4 1k's, 4 650's, and 2 300's with barndoors, softboxes, and gels out the wazoo, and then I have some ARRI pepper 150's and pro light 250...would that do the job for something like this? or do i need more?

Is it interior or exterior? Ancient times means fire to me. More info is needed.

Good Luck - Wilson
