Lighting a stage for keynote speaker

I will soon be shooting a series of seminars and I dont want them to look bland, is there anything cool i could do with lighting that would make it more than a speaker on a stage?

This is for a high end client under government subcontract. I honestly have no idea what the stage looks like, i will be shooting at The Center for Innovative Technology (www.cit.org), and am assuming it will be state of the art and am hoping it wont be "bland" to begin with. but incase I was wondering if anyone had suggestions for lighting/backlighting a speaker.

I do this from time to time, but you're going to need to get a bit of info. Light finding out what the room lighting is like, finding out if there is a lighting package already there for the stage (truss), finding out what the background to the stage is, and the stage dimensions.

Job 1 is to find out whether the speaker will be roaming on that stage, and if so, how to get even lighting of them. Once you find that out, you can start to think of them in terms of basic cinematography like blocking actors on a set. If they aren't moving much, then you have some additional options.
