hello

I'm about to shoot what I guess is an infomercial type of ad. (still not been given much information) and I was wondering what type of light and setups you have used when lighting something similar?

It will all be shot in a studio using a HVX. Hope someone can help me

Cheers, Wahrez

most infomercials follow the philosophy of flat even light. I would suggest something soft. Not a lot of ratio from light to dark.

How big is your stage? Will you need kicker lights for products? There is a lot to think about.

Apparently it is a pretty girl talking about toys!

Have no idea of the stage size et. Will find out tomorrow

I like where this is going.

might be good to edge light to get good highlights on the Vaseline. ;)

A very soft keylight with a strong fill would probably be the most appropriate. Don't let the face get 100% even, but keep each side of her face under a stop apart. Not everyone would agree, but I'm just telling you what I would do.

As for lights specifically, you could use anything. A Kinoflo, Chimera, Soft Box, China Ball, or even a fresnel pointing into a bounce card could all do it for you. Have fun and experiment before the shoot date!

If the little girl is demonstrating and talking about toys...why not use a bedroom type setting, or even a living room ? Seems to me to be a more natural way to introduce a toy. Shoot in a home like atmosphere, that's where she would be playing with/using them...Just saying..
If your going to the trouble of building a set, this would be the way to go. You can even "flood" the room with tungsten or daylight thru windows on your set.

Hi guys

its a relatively small space about 10m by 10m. There will be a backdrop (pink ish colours) and the person will stand behind a table about 2 mentres in front of the backdrop.

My thoughts are to use a softbox to light directly the scene and a couple of redheads to bounce of the walls/card to light the background. Maybe a Fresnel to give some slight backlight to the presenter?

In the closeups of the product to use the softbox and maybe bounce some light off of some card to add where necessary to remove shadows etc?

They also want to shoot a birdseye view directly above....I was thinking of maybe rigging a couple of smaller softbox lights to a "runway ladder" (don't know what they are called) type of rig. I'm not sure of how to attach the lights and camera to this so any help would be great!

If anyone has some ideas/feedback please let me know.

Cheers

putting lights onto a ladder is as simple as using a Maffer clamp. Rigging a camera is another story though...
