lighting a day int corridor follow shot

hi all,

working on a short film where one scene involves an old couple, a lady in a wheelchair and her old man pushing her through an old people's home corridor. I could theoretically suspend a couple of kinos on polecats and shoot another couple of hmi's through the doors but this is a real old people's home and the tenants arent very patient so would like to go minimal. I get an exposure indoors and thinking about using a "borrowed" airport trolley for the follow shot. There are fluorescents to fill the corridor and sunlight reaching through the doors, would a kino strung onto the trolley serve to bring out the characters? Anyone tried this on a moving shot? Any other ideas?

thanks.

Yeh, absolutely, you could hang a china ball to move with the camera rig to provide some fill light. It's basically the same concept as an on-camera light, but hopefully swung out to the side a little bit to give a pleasing angle (instead of deer in the headlights look). Don't use too much power or the effect will be obvious, but you do see this setup a lot in American Cinematographer magazine on sets.

I agree, and have done this type of shot many, many times...easy to rig, cheap, and tears down quickly. Good dolly needed, bungee and clamp a c-stand onto western dollie , or turtle based c-stand directly into a Fischer dollie. Lantern gobo armed out from stand... easy, easy to do... good luck. Just need a cable wrangler for your stinger (ext cords)...
