Lighter Stands for Sound Blankets?

Hello everyone:

Was wondering if anyone had any specific suggestions for lighter compact stands used to hold sound blankets? I've used c-stands with arm in the past, and although sturdy, difficult to transport. Was hoping someone out there would have a lighter, more compact option. I would anticipate using a sand bag with these of course.

Thanks in advance!

Happy Holidays!

Dan

I tend to use C- Stands and I do find the extra weight tedious at times, but I like that they serve many needs and are always reliable. You might get away with a pole between light stands like THIS. If you already have spare light stands you could probably fashion a DIY pole out of PVC or something light. Your kit gets lighter but now you have multiple pieces to manage. Keep us posted if you come up with anything.

I have one of those cheap photography backdrop set ups and throw a blanket over that. The pole sections are very light.

Yep! This is an excellent solution. They are light and usually two stands and a ten foot collapsable pole come in one small carrying bag.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone! In a constant effort to get more compact and organized, I love that that rig folds up into it's own bag, nice! The blankets themselves are another thing but they are what they are.

Thanks for the link to the one at B&H Cole, do you have experience with that exact brand/model? I think I'm going to be ordering a pair.

Thanks again everyone - happy holidays!

One quick and cheap way is to buy a 6 pack of mic stands with booms from ebay, and drape half folded blankets on them with the boom acting like a t at the extent of the mic stand extended , and you can place them around obstacles and a few around, that way you cover more areas tuning the audio as needed, only flaw is that they only go so high.

Not that exact one but I looked at renting something similar to hang a white background behind a subject. I ended up going with 2 C-Stands.

Where are you in MD.?

Just an update on this... I ended up purchasing a pair of Photek Background Support stands (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/41824-REG/Photek_S_4010_4_Background_Support_System.html) to hang sound blankets and am quite happy with them. It comes in 5 pieces, 2 stands and 4 sections of pole. The pole can be set up in two parts, three parts, or all four parts. The two part set-up was perfect to hang a sound blanket. The build seems relatively sturdy, I'll do my best to keep it from getting knocked around. I put the sound blanket up myself, putting each stand up higher a little at a time, eventually getting to a reasonable height. The set-up seemed sturdy without risk of tipping even without sand bags.

Best part is the included bag, pockets for each of the parts, folding up nicely. Easy to tote around using the handle or included (and removable) shoulder strap.
