lightening up a part of video

Ok I recently recorded a stage play I was in. The whole thing looks good but on the left it gets to dark to see whats happening. If I turn up all the levels you can see, but then of course the footage is crap. Can I apply the levels to just that side of the stage and have it blend with the rest of the frame so there isn't a visible line between the adjusted areas?

Haven't done this exact thing, but I would guess you could do it by using a bezier mask to mark the transition, and then a huge feather in & out on the dividing line.

You can use a black/white gradient. Make one from the Media Generator where the white corresponds to the part of the frame that you want to lighten. Then make a parent/child composite relationship between it (upper track) and your clip (lower track). Set Composite Mode to "Multiply (mask)" and then drop a mask generator on the gradient. You will then be able to add whatever brightening you want to add.

Then, just place the original clip on a lower track so that the unchanged clip will show through the mask. Should do what you want.

Man, I gotta use cookie cutters more often. Vegas makes things so easy that sometimes you forget the option is even there . . .
