Light

Ok, this will be my first event project as a videographer and as my employer mentioned to me I'll be needing some lights. It is an event(indoor)with various stands, drinking and fun and I'll have to be moving through the place to document everything. I don't have any lights yet so it will be my first buy and of course I wanted to check with profesionals before.

What do I need? on the camera or something else? do i need an assistant? I don't know what to look for so if anyone could either explaing for me and/or give me some names and/or recomendation, it will be super cool. Of course good and cheap it is always a good combo.

Also, since I'm at it.I was thinking about doing 24pa, just because I've never done it and thought it could look nice for this job.

As you can see I'm a newbie so, also any suggestion for my first event job will be a nice thing for me.

I'm happy with my dvx and I hve so much to learn yet.

always thankful.

Re: Light

you said indoors, flourescent lights?

if there is even lighting, considering its your first thing, i'd get some warm cards and white balance with those and keep it simple.

Re: Light

Thanks Mathew,

I didn,t ask what kind of lights they were having (fist time doing this) but knowing that it is a nice event with different companies showing their products, shopping but also with bar and a hanging out, having fun feeling, I will imaging that they will have something nicer than just flourecent lights, but maybe to dark for video.

I dout they will have flourecent lights at all, just something to dark for the video.

So, what on camera light will be good for this job? Any opinions on setting? I thought to try 24pa but maybe 30p will be better.

Thanks for the time.

Re: Light

ok is this place where it will be held a long distance from where you are? how far away is the event? is the event just one day/night?

#1. GOTO THE VENUE - do your research. it probably is fluorecent.

#2. try to go there and shoot just 5 or 10 minutes of footage with your camera with the light set the same way they will be for the event. if you ask nicely a lot of places will set the lights for you to the "show" settings, or if your lucky they are having a similar event and you can shoot some quick footage without getting in the way.

the dvx-100 has a flourecent setting but i always just use f6+the warm cards (the warmcards have a card just for that kind of lighting) www.warmcards.com

if its a short event maybe you can RENT a high quality on camera light like a mini-frezzi or a sungun with a battery belt for power.
