Light stands - standard vs air cushion

Hi all,

I've heard talk about both of these type of stands. I seem to hear air cushioned is better, but not everyone uses them, and some seem to hint that they don't like them. Could you help me out with some direction. It will be for the standard 3 light setups.

Air cushion is a cute gimmick. I don't use them because I don't loosen a stand and simply let it drop but nurture it down. SUre some folks will tell you they prevent such things but if you are careful, it matters little.
 
I don't know of any negatives although I did use two air stands that lost their ability at "airness". Either way, is more about the construction and stability of a stand for me than the air gimmick.
