Light output of halogen vs fluorescent

I'm looking at replacing my lighting package with fluorescents and am looking at some Cool Lights options. I notice on the Cool Lights site they consistently say their lights give about double or more the light output of tungsten lights. I'm assuming they mean halogen-based? Is this accurate? A Cool Lights CL655PMD or CL655P would essentially replace my Lowel Rifa 1K and actually give me more light output? I would be getting the 5600K versions.

I think they mean per wattage. Florescent are lower wattage but more lumen output per watt. You really have to just look at the total output of each bulb/fixture combination.

P.S. Florescents rock. I'm never going back.

Its really more like 3 to 4 times a halogen equivalent but you have to think of it as comparing to halogen behind diffusion so some light was cut there and the quality of light would be more the same. A CL-655/P/PMD, etc. would be about the equivalent therefore of a 1300w tungsten behind diffusion. Being conservative, yes about the same as your 1K.

Ahh, I understand now. I will put my Lowel lights up for sale later today then, and figure out exactly which of your lights I want. Thanks!

Just to be clear..... there is still a need for fresnels. You need hard-light sometimes. A florescent cant really be a hard light.

I understand. I just can't remember the last time I lit a scene with hard light at all. Everything recently has been soft lights or hard lights with diffusion. And I think my lighting has been better overall that way. I'll probably pick up a couple hard lights just in case after I get the fluorescents, but right now I want to unload these Lowels that I'm no longer happy with. Thanks for your input and reminder.
