light on closed eyes

Not sure if this is the right forum...

but I'm trying to achieve the look of light shining on one's closed eyes... from the inside of the eyelids. I have farily poor vision, so I'm not even sure what I'm seeing when I close my eyes. My guess, though, is that it's just a matter of placing some semi-translucent material in front of the lens and shining light on it. But what, though?

Thoughts anyone? T-I-A

If you close your eyes and look at the sun (I would only advise doing this w/ your eyes closed...) You juse see a pink-peach-red blob, So perhaps a white trash bag folded over a couple of time with a red jel on the outside.

However, every time it is portrayed in the movies, it's either a fade up from black or a soft-edge wipe from black. Even though that's not accurate, it is the viewing publics perception, and to deviate from that might confuse the audience or make them think too much and take them out of the story.

Just depends on what effect you want to have on the audience.

Well, if we're talking about representing a recovery of consciousness, then a fade-up from black is reasonably accurate.

interesting. i'm actually trying to simulate when light flashes on your face, like, say you're riding in a car, and the sunlight's coming through trees and buildings.... and it may be in b/w or real desaturated, if that helps.

Do you want to make it look exactly as it does when you are opening your eyes with bright light shining on your face? If you do, you will probably have to create a fairly complex rig of nearly opaque material with a suitable "eyelash" material on the ends of it. The material would need to slide away from top and bottom in unison and allow the eyelashes to part to create that slightly diffused look as you are beginning to open your eyes.

Since I read this post I've been trying to pay attention to exactly what it looks like, and to me, it's just a faint color blur, and then as my eyes open, there are to curved bars that slide apart with a fuzzy blur in the middle that is me seeing whatever in the distance through my eyelashes. If you could pull off something like that, it would be totally cool.

I think maybe if you take Profnoxin's suggestion about the trash bag and red gel, then run a cookie in front of the light you're shining on the bag. Have someone move the cookie around in front of the light and see if that gives you the broken flashes of light you're looking for (that is, if the eyes are supposed to remain closed).

Thanks for the ideas so far, guys.

Just to clarify, I want to simulate the look of light flashing through your closed eye lids, as in, when you go to sleep while riding in a car. Plus, I'd rather not deal with false eye lashes.

and... cookie! No, I get it.

At any rate, I'll give the garbage bag suggestion a try soon, and report back in case anyone's curious.

I actually did this last weekend, but didn't have time to capture it until now. But this is what I ended up with, and I think it's pretty close to what I want. See what you think.

thanks for all the help!

hey, thanks!

I hope it works out myself. The setup is: a bum has gotten on the bus to go home, metaphorically speaking. It's "due" the 22nd, so I'll see soon enough.

I'm not sure how translucient your eyelids are but I don't see nearly that much light when my eyes are closed. I think you should crush the levels on the "closed eyes" part and you'll have it. Looks pretty cool.

Good idea, thanks. This is the first thing I've actually done for this project, so it's not cc-ed or what have you.
