Light loss results for M2 and the Letus-

This morning was testing time for me- I finally got out the HVX, M2, Letus Flip, grey card, and my trusty light meter to actually do some hard testing to see what the actual light loss was with the adapters. I had always felt that the light loss for the M2 was somewhere inbetween 1 and 2 stops, but now I know exactly how much. :)

For those of you who want more details on how I went about testing you can check out the details on my blog at: http://www.ryanewalters.com

For those of you who want the quick answers:
ISO / ASA rating for:
HVX-200: 320 (confirmed this reading, as this is the rating Barry Green says the HVX is- he is right. :) )
HVX-200 + M2: 100 (Looses 1 and 2/3 stops of light)
HVX-200 + 1st version of the Letus Flip: 64 (Looses 2 and 1/3 stops of light)

Hope that helps anyone who is interested in the ISO / ASA ratings of these adapters. :)

EDIT:
According to Barry's Tests of the latest versions of the LetusFlip, they are only loosing about 1.5 stops of light. If you have an older model like I have, expect to loose 2 and 1/3 stops.

EDIT: This is NOT for the Letus Extreme or Economy. (Or even the latest version of the Flip.) This is just for older models of the Letus Flip.

2 1/3 light loss on the Letus...I thought it was 11/2. f stops. What is the ASA on the letus...I have a canon XLA1. But I'm getting the SGPRO in August.

The ASA of the HVX with the Letus came in at 64. Compared with just the HVX which rated at 320 ASA, that is a difference of 2 1/3 stops.

One of the great things about the Letus is that each unit is hand made, and Quyen makes adjustments to it about every 4 - 6 months. The drawback is that each unit is not exactly like the others, so the milage on each one may very. Since the unit I have is about a year old, it is possible the Quyen has updated them- but the one that I have looses that much light.

Yes, I agree that you need to make it clear that you are not talking about the Extreme or the Economy here. I concur with Barry that there was a dramatic light increase with the most recent version of the FE.

Ryan, I say this respectfully, but I feel like this test is redundant regarding the Letus model as this particular version is no longer available as a new unit and the current FE is giving completely different results.

I'm only saying this because your results may confuse people who are not completely familiar with all the various models and their subsequent updates.

This is an old post made 4+ months ago- before the Extreme was out, using the model of the flip that I had at the time. I did update the posting and note it accordingly -

I upgraded from the Letus FE to the Letus Economy and I'm loving it!!! The light loss was always an issue. I'm glad those guys are on the ball with pushing the limits of this fantastic device. Oh, sorry... Back to topic now.

Thanks for doing those tests!
