Light Kit

Are there any suggestions for a good light kit to use with the HVX200? I'm going to mostly be doing one and two camera interviews. Looking for something that's not too pricey and comes with barndoors and a case...

Thanks,

I've found the cheapest way to go for pro lighting is Lowel. I have a DP Kit and it works great.

Arri makes very nice kits, but they cost a lot more money!

If you plan on shooting a lot of interviews, you will need at least one light that gives off a lot of soft light. A Lowel light with an umbrella works great.

Some people hate Lowel lights, but they are workable (be sure to get black wrap to clean up light spills and frost gels to soften the other lights if they give off light that you feel is too hard).

Most interviews will require 3-4 lights (1 Key, 1 fill, 1 backlight and 1 background light). You can get away with 3 lights if you use cheap foam core to bounce in the fill.

These are just tips. Lighting is a very subjective thing.

Good luck!

You might check out the britek light kits at Rostronics. http://www.rostronics.com/default.asp Not quite as nice as the more expensive lights, but they work well and the price is right. I've used them with the HVX and gotten good results. Also I found some florescent screw in bulbs at a local light supply house, Bulbman at 775-788-5661. If you call them I'm sure they can give you more info. They run 3500 Kelvin for around $8 ea and they are good fill, or they can be used by themselves if you use enough of them and want a different look light wise. (I don't have the boxes so I can't give you the name. The bulb has this info on it: TCP # 28923 model edxo-23 3500K, customer service number is 1-800-771-9335.) They are 100-watt output, but they only use 23 watts so you can use them in multiple fixtures, as lighting for inside car scenes etc, or they can be used in movie settings in lamps etc on the set and give you useful light but not look out of place on set.
