I've worked with tungsten for about 10 years and I really like how they render skin tones but their unbearable heat and power drain is something I was trying to get away from. Leds sound great but they will be used mainly for narrative work so I have to be able to flag them, diffuse them, etc. It seems that LEDs are very expensive compared to tungstens. Would a lightstorm get me great skin tones and flexibility?
Just out of curiosity - do you have lightstans/flags/grip tools? Because thats something to take in account to shape light
Lightstorms 1s are great - but considering your budget, i don't think you will be able to get 2 of them. Even if you do, you wont have money for flags, stands and grip. Nonetheless, even though you could buy tungsten for cheaper and more power, LEDs are better long term. Cameras need less and less light as the years go by, having lights that can be powered by batteries is really really useful and not dealing with the heat of tungsten will be important for summer shooting.
I would also look at the aputure tri-8. Cheaper then lightstorms 1s and you will probably be able to get 2 of them and gripping
