Hey Guys i need a light kit for a dance hall. It has to be very bright and broad and also under $500. The hall holds about 300 ppl. I am not looking for 3points kits. thx a million.

why not try worklights? they are bright and broad. and if you don't need controllable lights.

and they are well under 500$.
The only problem that i see is whee to hang them.

I want them to portable. Work light are hard lag around. Do you any cheap broad light kits. What do you guys think of those kit on ebay that run 150-500?

Can you be more specific?
What are you doing there? Lighting a scene?
The more details you give the better people can help...

You can't light a room that big without very big lights, like 5ks or whatever.

You can probably rent a generator and some big lights for under $500 a day, so that should do okay for you, but I don't think it's the best solution because it's a lot of work to set up.

So you should probably work with what you have in the scene. Does the scene look okay with just the lights that are there? Can you turn certain ones on or off and then use smaller lights to fix up close ups? Maybe you can strategically replace practical fixtures with photofloods to highlight main characters or whatever.

But no light kit will do what you're thinking for a hall with 300 people. Totas and DP lights (on ebay) are quite bright and quite cheap, though, so that's a start but you'll mostly have to rely on what light is already there.

cultural events with live band and dancers. I usually rent some tota and omi light plus what ever the venue provides and then crank my camera to give a decent footage. The peopl i film they don't care if the light is bright. They just want the video to look good at end. So i want a kit that i can lag around the country. thx

So you are lighting the whole event? Light technician for a stage show, somehow?

Are you talking of lighting only the stage?
Is it a classical audience infront of stage situation or are the two parts interacting, meaning the light is needed in different places of the hall?
Or is it about washing he whole place with light?

Ok, if you need to light let´s say the dancefloor, on that budget, I´d get 8 of the biggest china balls you can get, strong photo bulbs with fitting bases and long cable, steel cable and some homedepot grip stuff.
So rig this where it fits overhead, to bring up the ambient.
Then add a couple of worklights (I have Totas, but basically it´s the same...) at a steep angle from sideways to get some hard rims...

Otherwise Policar is right on, you just don´t get far with 500$ for buying professional lights. So renting would be the obvious choice. But I guess your 500$ is a one time budget, right?

The don´t know how much the Briteks are, but you said no three point kit and I´d rather have 15 worklights for your situation.
Make that 20 and geled with blue or green, if it fits the mood of the "cultural event".

Mainly I just want lit the dance floor. What do you guys think about using the smith and Victor, or Britecks. Are they better than 3 tota light kits. Thx
