I tried with just one 100watter and a blue gel but that turned out ok on lcd but the footage was actually useless can someone tell me how to light this for a dvx100a. there is a mother and daughter in the bed and they wake up in the middle of the night and carry a very small conversation.

please help:furious3:

I did this a long time ago (on film) with a flood bounced off the ceiling to light the room, a very bright spot (focussed wide) outside the window to simulate moonlight, and a blue filter over the lens.

The room was VERY bright, but the camera was stopped-down so it looked like night, but you could still see everything clearly.

Post was a little more difficult back then! :)

There are a couple night-time filters in Magic Bullet, but given the immediate feedback from putting a piece of blue filter over the lens (I used a daylight correction filter), I'd just go with that -- you'll instantly know if it works or not.

Just did this a few nights ago. Combined a blue gelled hard light (250w on a dimmer) with a very diffused warm fill - which looked like general room ambience. Dimmers are really crucial if you're in a small space. But yes, overlight and either stop down in camera or post.

Also have an external monitor there so you can really see what you're doing!
