Light and shadow and darkness

Is there software available that can change the overall brightness of a shot to perfectly match a follow up shot that may be a bit darker and more shadowy?

The acrtess speaking in one shot looks great, very shadowy and cool. but the cutaways I shot of the person listening to her do not match. His shots are more brightly lit.

Set up After Effects to have two preview windows, set each clip into its own comp, put each comp in a preview window, and use anything from Levels, Curves, Exposure, things like that on an adjustment layer to whichever you want to change, and make your changes.

Or, make a solid that is dark gray and put it above the footage. change the blending more to Darken, Multiply, or Linear Burn, and adjust opacity to taste.
