Licensing footage.net vs. going straight through nbc, abc, cnn

It looks like I can license clips from all those different channels through footage.net. Does anyone know if it is cheaper to use a site like that or if it is cheaper to get the clips straight from each channel.

Thanks!

I'd also like to know this.

And an editorial comment: I see people using obviously copyrighted material - either video content or music all the time on Vimeo, Youtube, and other websites. I assume, but I can't prove, that most of these uses are done without the permission of the copyright holder (and thus they are illegal). I posted several questions on other video forums about who to contact and what the steps and costs were to obtain the licensing rights from the copyright holders of existing music and absolutely no one seemed to know - they use royalty-free music instead.

But major commercials and movies do use existing copyrighted material all the time, and I assume (but can't prove) that they are doing it perfectly legally. Yet in the videography community the knowledge about the processes and costs of doing this seems scant. The OP posted his question 2 months ago and didn't get a single response.

When copyright infringements are identified by YouTube, they notify the rights-holders of music the option to either remove the infringements or post ads on the content. So that's one way that lawsuits are avoided. A lot of other unauthorized use, particularly of smaller labels, goes unnoticed.

I would encourage you to use the prices that footage.net are offering as leverage in your direct negotiations with the networks. You don't have anything to lose, right?
