Licensing ColdPlay music?

Hi there, Does anyone here knows how or have tried to get a Film festival license (price 250-500) for any song from coldplay? I've tried to contact Capitol records(I think this is their record company) about this subject but seems like they don't have a specific section that offers licenses like Independent record companies do , e.i, EMI, SUB-Pop(Postal Service record company), etc...

Just curious, what's the difference between "Label" and "record" company? sorry not a music buff.

Thanks dudes
G.

i think "label" and "record" company are the same thing...I usually refer to them as "record labels" hehe.

I'm sorry, I don't know how you go about licensing music, try googling it?

I mean, I know that in order to license someone's music you just have to engaged in this endless battle and make sure both parties are satisfied , one with the money and the other with the right to use the song, but my question is how can I license specifically music from coldplay?

Anyone here that knows someone who knows someone that works for Capitol Records? hehehehe

thanks
g.

Start here at the ASCAP site. Your song shows up in that database.
Looks like your song is controlled by BMG.

It's basically a matter of paying the royalties per the usage model you want to use it in. Broadcast, theatrical, live, radio, etc... and how many impressions or usages you'll get (how many times a spot will run in a market, yada yada)

I'd expect to cough up some coin to license that one though, imho.

thanks Owen! for the link! So this place is the one that sells the license for that song? I'm reading about it.

thanks

Well that's the place to start, but it's like Kai said. It depends on usage. You'll likely have to contact ASCAP and BMI.

Smaller labels sometimes release through larger labels, well it happens alot over here in the U.K.

We have agencies you go through and artist are sent royalties every year.
