I thought i remember reading about it on here but is there a license that is needed to sell footage that is encoded with h.264 into .movs?

so i won't run into royalty issues when selling video clips. i had someone tell me that I'm liable and that i could get hit hard for selling clips that i encode with h.264?

According to this information: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/H.264#Patent_licensing
only the makers of equipment that uses H.264 are liable for licensing/royalties.
Read it again. That's not an accurate reading, because you had better believe that every hollywood studio releasing blu-ray discs is paying patent royalties. In fact, if I'm not mistaken, you can't even get your discs made without paying the royalties; your replicator will charge you the royalty fee at the time of manufacture. And blank discs have the royalty fee built into their pricing structure too, IINM.

heres what he is referring to in the license agreement...
