Libec RH25D vs Manfrotto 504HD video head

I'm looking for an affordable video head for my SONY FS5. Money is tight, so I'm not in the market for a high end video head, and the Manfrotto 504HD looks like it would be suitable. However, I just read about the Libec RH25D and wonder if anyone has experience with this head. I like that the counter balance is variable, as opposed to the 3 steps of the 504 head. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

At the price point of these units you pretty much get what you par for. That said, in my opinion, the 504HD is a pile of junk. In your shoes I'd probably go to the Libec or look for something better thats used.

Not a big fan of my 504. It's relegated to backup or loaner duty. It's OK, but not amazing. The pan friction control is in the stupidest place and it's a PITA to adjust. It's not the finest feeling piece of kit and I have a devil of a time getting the tilt to lock down solid. To lock it down I have to really crank the knob. From what I understand the 504 is not a true fluid head, but a friction head. I have no experience with the Libec, but if I had to pick between these two now I'd take a flier on the Libec because I pretty much know what the 504 is- and it isn't really that good.

If it were me, I would save my money for something like a used Oconnor 515 or Ultimate DV.

I recently bought a used O'Connor 515 and I love it. It just works. I used to have a great old Vinten Vision 10 and like a dummy I sold it in one of those "I have way too much camera crap!" moments. Such regret.
