Libec LX10?

Hi All,

Just wondering if anybody has any experience with the Libec LX10? I'm having a lot of trouble finding any reviews about it online.

I'm looking to upgrade my tripod, as my rig has grown in weight a lot since I added a Shogun Inferno. My rig is probably 20lb fully loaded, and I've been looking around for used Vinten or Miller Arrow kits, but it seems people don't want to let them go very often. I want to avoid all the knock-off brands like Secced, E-Image, Benro, etc as I want this tripod to last me a decent amount of time. Buying new, the LX10 is the only suitable system I can find that fits within my budget (it's actually quite a bit under my max). Libec is a brand I am familiar with and who have a decent reputation, but I cannot find anything at all about this particular tripod in real-life usage.

Anybody able to help out with reviews or user experiences?
 
Sorry deltoldjohn, I've never used that particular model but I can tell you I used an inexpensive Libec for years and it was pretty good for the money, much better than Manfrotto junk. The spreader fell off, it needed a special unique screw and piece to attach it back so we called Libec USA in Torrance. No response, repeated inquiries so at least here in the states, their customer service kind of sucked, perhaps the Austrailia office/distributor is better? Personally, I would get a Miller over a Libec any day.

Did you talk to Taj Jackson? He says he would prefer not to ship internationally but this is a very good deal on a Miller Solo Compass 20 setup http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthrea...-Solo-2-Stage-Carbon-Fibre-System-(Must-Sell) It's been listed a long while, maybe he will change his mind if he knows it is a good DVXer in Australia?
 
Thanks for the reply. My first ever tripod was a Libec - can't remember the model - and it was great for smaller cameras I had at the time (VX2100, FX7). The Manfrotto's I owned after that were disappointing, and now I've got a Cartoni Focus 8 which is great, but once again my rig has outgrown it.

I'm definitely looking to get a 100mm system this time around, which rules out the kit you posted - along with the fact I hate the Miller twist lock legs! I am looking at the Compass 23 though, but that is about where my budget tops out for brand new gear. Do you have any experience/knowledge of the older Vinten tripods? Say the Vision 11 or Vision 100? As they pre-date the internet, it seems there's no reviews or even spec sheets that are easily obtainable online, though there seems to pop up for sale more often than the Miller Arrows.
 
Well, without the ability to test one or even read a proper review, I think I'll pass on the Libec.

I'm now looking at the used market to find something along the lines of a Miller Arrow/Arrow 30 or DS30.
 
Thanks for the input NorBro. I certainly have no issues with Libec as a brand - though I know they are not on par with the big 4 (O'Conner, Sachtler, Miller, Vinten). Certainly all the generalisations I've read, along with personal experience, put them as the only "budget" brand worth considering, but it is just impossible to find any information at all about this system. Even on Libec's own website, there is only one decent actual product photo and the rest are just copied and pasted from other models.
 
Just an update - I ended up getting a 2nd hand Miller Arrow 30 with Sprinter II legs.

I paid double what I could've got the Libec for - $2600 vs $1300 (AUD) - but I'm happy knowing I have a tripod that will last me for a decade of camera upgrades. Maybe someone will stumble across this post in a few years and let everyone know they've been happy with the LX10 - but until then, it's just too hard to purchase one blindly.
 
Bummer I wish I had seen this thread before.

I have an LX10 and wouldve been happy to discuss my experience with it, and talk about a great price on it :(
