Libec LS-38M(2A) Tripod System vs. Manfrotto 504HD/546B

I'm in the market for the best sub $800 tripod I can get that will support my AC130. I would probably go with the Sachtler ACE but I think my rig is a little heavy. I will most likely have my 130(~6lbs) + mic + wireless receiver on it most of the time. I don't foresee ever mounting rails or an external monitor to the rig, so not THAT heavy.

Based on this review, http://www.dvuser.co.uk/content.php?CID=150, the Libec 38 seems to outshine the Manfrotto. The review was almost six years ago though and not sure if anyone has been able to develop a better tripod for this class and price range. Most reviews I've seen(on here and elsewhere) for the 504HD have been decent although the aluminum 546B legs appear to be heavy and cumbersome.

Also, I don't want to buy used...

Any input for my situation will be AMAZINGLY appreciated.

THANKS!

Tyler

I own the Sachtler ACE and it's a great tripod for the price, but it tops out at 8.8 lbs.

You should take a look at the Libec RS-250M which can handle up to 13 lbs, and has continuous variable counter-balance control on the head. ( this was my alternate choice against the Sachtler ACE )

Libec RS-250M : $769 at B&H

BTW, I have owned the Manfrotto HDV501 and HDV503 video heads, and absolutely hated both of them with a passion. I will never buy another Manfrotto video head, but I'm ok with their sticks.

I was just looking at the 250 actually... Based on the review by the same guy, they RS series seems pretty reliable.

Is there any other NEW Sachtler or Vinten's I should be looking into in this price range that could hold my set-up? I just want to make sure I'm weighing all my options out.

As of now, I'm leaning toward the LIBEC RS250. Working counterbalance, fluid head(albet with only 2 drag settings), and reviews show no snap-back on pans.
