Libec LS-22

I'm thinking of getting this tripod for $400. Can anyone give me some info or suggestions about this tripod.

I'm upgrading and like this one better than my Manfrotto.

Is this a good or bad tripod? Anything I should know about?

Thanks a lot!

Earlier this year I purchased this tripod through B&H. They ran a special that also included a Libec remote zoom control (ZC3), which is very cool. The tripod is made in Japan, which means the attention to detail and craftsmanship is superb. It is definitely worth the money. However, because this tripod is built to only support light weight cameras, I had to return it once I realized that with all my other camera gear added in, (matte box, wireless receiver, FS-100 and more...), I was over the max weight limit. I finally ended up spending around a thousand bucks on a Sachtler DV4II that would support more weight.

Yes. For a light weight, low-priced tripod the Libec LS-22 is a great buy! If you do decide to get it, buy it through BandH Video. They are still offering the tripod with the On-Ground Spreader, Bag and a free ZC-3DV Zoom Control.

I concur. Well said, TheatrixMP.

I too purchased the Libec LS-22 from B&H. They seemed to be the only ones that offered the zoom control free with the tripod even though it looked as if it is factory packaged that way.

Anyway, I'm very pleased with it. The quality is adequate, the features are a wonderful value at the price ($400), it's very portable, and works incredibly well with my DVX100A...until I mounted a Cobra CamCrane on it and went WAAAAY over the recommended weight limit of the tripod. With a little help and luck on my side, I was able to use the CamCrane jib long enough to get the shot I needed and without incurring any damage toon the Libec tripod. But I won't be doing that ever again.

The moral of this post.....like TheatrixMP said, just make sure the weight limit meets your current and any foreseeable mountable accessories.
