LG 27MD5K IPS 5K monitor for mac, 99% P3, $1300

Nice monitor if you've got a mac.

5K at 60hz over thunderbolt
99% DCI P3
10 bit (FRC)
IPS
500nits
1200:1 contrast

That's a lot of tech being brought down to consumer level. While it's not an apples to apples comparison, the Eizo CG318-4K 31.1" is similar and costs $5739 at BH. It's really crazy how powerful and cheap tech is getting. I recently browsed some gaming laptops and saw a bunch with dual GPU with the new NVDIA 10 series, pretty much matching desktop performance now. Good times ahead for content creators. Hope to see high spec'd OLED get affordable soon. And I wish the manus would get together and kill HDMI, and just stick to Thunderbolt and DP.

I was thinking of getting the 4K as an interface monitor, but the problem is you need to have a computer with decent USB-C support already. A Displayport to USB-C cable won't work apparently, you need a 3.1 USB/Thunderbolt port, and my X79 mobo has neither.

16:9 5k monitor is better than a UHD one.

That's a blunt statement:) Did you see that I wrote "video work"?

UHD does not scale to 5k without interpolation. So you can not get a reference image displaying UHD in 5k res. If you want a higher res panel than buy something that is a x 2 integer. 8k in this instance. The other option is to use just the pixel you need on the panel. An unscaled UHD image on this monitor wouldn't take up the whole screen. And it wouldn't be like on 1920x1200 panels where you get a bit of black bars top/bottom, but it would be a significant portion of the screen that would end up being unused. I'm to lazy to do the math, but I think you would effectively get a 22" screen. If this is not a problem than this is a moot argument.

This higher res monitors are nice for GUI but certainly not for reference. But even for GUI I'm sceptical, as it's really high res but a small panel. So GUI scaling problems can be an issues. 5k would need 40" or more.
