LEX edge to edge on XH A1

Ok, i got LEX + XH A1 and been playing to get perfect focus, but i cant!

focusing on ground glass gives me headache, the focus is either in the center, either in the edges, does this mean i have back focus issue?

i suppose this is what ex1 users have experienced, maybe i should get the new achromat or this is normal?

thanks...

the best way to test for backfocus is the set your 35mm lens to infinity

Get your most telephoto lens on, find something in the far far distance. Zoom into the GG all the way and turn magnification on, as well as peaking.

See if you can focus on the furthest thing. If not, adjust for backfocus.

This probably not a 35mm lens backfocus issue but likely due to focus problems of the video camera on the GG and is common with adapters.

Finding perfect corner and center focusing may be difficult so you should choose the best compromise and stop down the video cameras f stop for better results if necessary.

I don't know about Letus achromats and the XHA1. Perhaps there is an improved achromat but you should contact letus directly about this.

I have to agree with lenilenapi.. this occurs focusingo to ground glass, so shouldn't be a lens focus problem, is there a way to solve this? this problem is especially visible when shooting with wide angle 20mm lens.... not so with 35/50 or 105 mm lens, as focus area is very shalow and you don't see this on blured edges...

Your achromat could be in backwards.

After a friend cleaned my achromat, he put it in backwards and the same happened to me.

Look at the shot at 1:40 on my reel: http://www.vimeo.com/1052384 - you'll notice intensely soft edges.

I did an entire short without knowing why my edges were soft. Luckily if I shot on longer lenses, it was not as noticeable. It definitely changed how I composed shots though (not to mention could have killed the film).
