LEX and Carl Zeiss Contax 28mm vingetting...

I tested my Zeiss Contax Lenses c/y + eos adapter on the HVX200
They all do very well except the 28mm/2.8. It has a lot vignetting . Does anybody recognize the problem? Is it just the 28mm? Or is it the Eos adapter?

that'll be the m42 (?) adapter for sure, i dont think that the zeiss 28mm would have any wignetting.

I have an M42 adapter for Nikon mount and I use a 35mm without vignetting. Do remember that you have to find a sweet spot for all of your lenses, including the wide ones, as far as how far you're zoomed in.

It's Zeis Contax (contax/yashica mount) with a c/y> canon eos adapter. Photographers use this lense + adapter for their digital (eos) canons.

The vignetting is at the VistaFrame frame size -at 20.2mm. And it's gone by about zoom in at 30. But I bought the 28mm for wide shots...

I vignette at that point as well. I've found for 17mm on up, to escape vignetting I have to be zoomed in to 25-27. That'll allow me to use the wides from 17-35mm on up without vignetting.

I don't think it's the Contax mount, I think it's just that you're not zooming in far enough.

I have no idea, and won't pretend to think I know why. Might wanna ask someone much more qualified.

But I do know once I set the camera up for an 18mm I have no problem with vignetting from any of the lenses.

The glass on the mount site (must be a name for it...) is closer to the adapter then my other zeiss lensens. Maybe that's the reason.

Edge falloff at the wider angles is indeed an issue for most adapters. We had some issues with it with the Brevis, now fixed with CF1Le. Users with f2.8 28mm lenses have a full 36mm wide usable frame :-)

The issue is not your Contax to EOS adapter as the EOS mount has a very large diameter, and an f2.8 lens has a fairly small exit diameter...likely 25% of the EOS opening. One thing you should check is that your focus marks work as they should when measuring from the film plane (the ground glass) to a target at a measured distance. The process is called collimation, and adjusting your lens mount may help a bit.

Dont know if this is related, but I have a 28mm nikon that on my first adapter I could never get in focus, but after my purchase of my second adapter this same lens comes in nice and sharp. What would this suggest?

i dont have a letus extreme, but i have all zeiss contax lenses with c/y adapter. The 28mm works a bit different on different adapters.

I think Kholi is right, just gotta zoom in a little more.
