LetusEx + EX-1 Optimization Package Test: Steve Cahill

Kho;i, I just tested the Letus, Brevis w/Flip and SG w/ Brevis Flip on the HVX. They all have good corner to corner sharpness in my tests. the only issue I saw was that with the Letus and the Brevis flip/ SG Rev 2 combo there was a different optimal focus point for the corners and the center , so that if you focus on the ceneter only you will have soft corners. The Brevis hit dead center and corner focus in the same spot.

I guess you could argue that means the other two didn't have perfect sharpness, however if you did the adjustment for them, all three looked good and sharp across the field at wide open f-stops on the HVX to me.

I did find some other differences of course and actually had opposite experience to your tests with the Letus zoomed in on the field. It looked a little softer to me than at full SLR image. I have a few dozen frame grabs that I will post as soon as i get organized.

This is not my test. It's Steve Cahill's with his Optimized Ground Glass. Now the compromise in zoom distance is corrected and, honestly, I didn' tsee this edge sharpness with the brevis footage that Dennis just posted.

=P Course you're gonna find it different than I do. We will always agree to disagree and have completely different sets of eyes.

I'm very encouraged by this. IIRC the EX-1 had some of the worst edge sharpness issues (esp on the right) of any of the cameras. With the "fix-kit" installed it looks very nearly spot-on, and lens issues could easily explain the minor shortfall that remains. If the HVX (what I have) can be improved by the same order of magnitude, we'll have a new day in adapter-world.

With my LEX due here tomorrow, I can't wait for news on Letus's HVX-fix availability.
