Letus35mm stops in cold weather?

The vibrator shuts off (or atleast the light). Is that because of the cold is the Letus35mm Exteme dying on me and would I need to send it in for service?

Also, noticed I see a lot of grain now on the 20mm 2.8 lens because of this. I use a 50mm lens most of the time (f 1.4) so it's not so bad with that, but could it be because of the cold? Has anyone had this issue? We're currently shooting outside in NYC and the red vibrating button stops glowing.

I'd devise a quick test. TEST IT INSIDE! :)

I can see how the cold might due this, but I've never read about this anywhere. You should be able to feel if it's on or not... depending on how numb your hands are from being cold!

I don't know why you'd see grain on a 20mm and not on a 50mm though. Seems to me like you'd see vignetting more than anything. Is this the case with all of your other settings the same? Shutter, etc?

Shooting inside is no problem. The red part stays red. I'm just curious if anyone else had this problem while shooting in 20 degree weather.

There have been some accounts of adapters failing in very cold weather. Not sure if I read about it in this or another forum. I recommend a search.

The cold sounds like the problem then. If you want a quick fix, rig up something so you can attach heatpacks to it... they make these for cameras... a form fitted sleeve that you slide heat packs into and viola... no fail!

But now that I think of it... it makes since to me as to why it doesn't work as well in 20 degree weather!

Filming in the Arctic, cameramen have to even sleep with their batteries! Another quick test would be to try DC power outside. You could determine whether the weakness is elsewhere or in the batteries quickly that way. If it's the batteries, maybe you can find another solution to keeping them warm. Switching them out constantly? Switching to Lithium Ion. Something like that.
