Letus35a vs. Letus Extreme

Hey everyone. Ive been using a dvx100b for a little over a year and now I think Im ready to buy an adapter.

Ive noticed that a used letus35a will only cost me around 300.00, but can anyone compare its quality to a Letus Extreme or Economy?? (quality of the footage shot, not the quality of the adapter construction)

35a would be a great entry-level adapter if you can't afford Econ or Extreme. That said, if you're going to go for it... go straight to the Extreme.

The Economy has similar optics, but a different package. Extreme is maxed out and all-around killer.

Well, I know that the extreme is the best of the three.... but I guess what Im really asking is - how much more will a Letus Extreme make my dv footage look like modern movie footage than a Letus35a???

Has anybody used both??

Not much more if you aren't sure what an adapter actually does. There's more than that... you still have to deal with lighting, etc.

There are a few stickied threads you should read through as much as you can stand, you'll actually find the answers you're looking for there.

In short: None of them will make your footage look like modern movie footage. However, every single adapter stands to degrade your footage into an already overflowing pool of "look I'm a 35mm adapter" footage if you're not too sure on the purpose.

I have to admit, Im not a professional videographer - I really just use my dvx to make music videos. But are you saying that these 35mm adapters do more than just change the look and texture of the footage? (forget blurring from object to object, and blurred backgrounds - I get that). And Ive gotten really good with lighting lately...

Lets just cut right to the chase.... If I shot a scene with no adapter in 24p on my dvx100b, and then shot the exact same scene (same lighting and settings) with the Letus Extreme and a Canon 50mm lense - youre saying that there wouldnt be much of a difference in the two footages??

Just about the only thing the adapters do is create the shallow depth of field (shallow focus) that matches 35mm movie film.

There will be an enormous difference between shooting with the raw lens, and shooting with the adapter. But most of the difference will be in the depth of field.

There will also be some grain and texture added by using the adapter, and it affects how out-of-focus highlights are treated etc., but that's the minority difference. The majority is in the blurred backgrounds.

Hey, thanks for specifically answering my question man!!! I think Ive got it now...

You read me wrong. Of course there'll be a difference.

That's what I was referring to. It's not going to instantly look like a movie if you slap an adapter on. That's what I meant.
