Letus35 Ultimate vs Movietube JR,

both are new and come for around 4500 USD.

Which one to chose for what kind of situations?

Has anyone tested both of these adapters?
I read that Letus 35 Extreme did not match the image quality of the Movietube JR, but maybe this situation changed with the Ultimate version.
Any thought on that?

Thanks
Oli

Yeah, where did you read that? I'd like to see the side by side of the Extreme and the Jr. So far i've only see one person with the Jr. on the boards.

no experience w/ the movie tube, tho the ultimate is really well designed, tested, and built.

Yeah I read that...Do you have a better side by side comparison. I'm asking because I found his test method to be no test methodology...no footage to compare, no charts, controlled test evironments etc. We just have conficting oppinions and limited first hand accounts. Some say the Movie Tube is grainy and blah, blah, blah etc. Then you have the Nikon lenses...which many on the boards opine to be sub par as a whole for serious work at least in comparison to Zeiss cine and still glass. I've seen a ton of great looking Letus footage/SG Pro Footage/Brevis Footage/ and RedRock Footage...3 Movie Tube clips that are eh(one clip is short). Could somone who owns one post some stuff on vimeo as an MP4 also. Sorry your thread title made me think you had something more substantive than just one opinion on two products not tested side by side.

Thats why I choose the topic name, so that the people with good side by side results come here as well, and share them with us or at least people who worked with both adapters share there experience with us.

I have a production coming up where I wonna work with one of those adapters.
As soon as I made my choice I could do a side by side comparison with my M2 adapter but I already know which won is gonna win ;)

But that's the thing...i've seen some awesome stuff from the M2. I've seen one MovieTube vid that looked good (albeit on a computer monitor)...but there so damn expensive that few people own them outside of Europe from what I can tell. The example footage on their site is pretty small too. Are you gonna rent or buy the adapter?

The MovieTube Jr. is a static adapter meaning you have no limitations using faster shutter speeds but the screen pattern becomes visible when you close the iris down below f5.6

The Ultimate is a spinning adapter and you can use it with both high shutter speeds and it has been tested to work at up to f22.

The MovieTube uses no batteries because it does not have any moving parts.

The Ultimate uses 2 AA batteries and has a low battery indicator.

I and other DVXusers at CineGear saw Grain in the MOvie Tube when nearly wide open. Aperture on the Nikon lens was set at 2.8 and the grain was clearly visible.

Maybe something was wrong with it? But it's non-moving parts so...

I would want to buy it.

I heard very bad things about the letus35 extreme from one of my friends whos judgment I trust. He switched to the movietube Jr and never looks back.
Maybe it all changed with the ultimate version, the price difference is huge, so I would expect it to be better.

Things he said about Letus35 extreme:

-bad costume service (he had a problem with the gg and it took the team ages to reply to him or to offer him help)
-vignetting
-back focusing was almost as bad as on the M2 Adapter, (different world then on the movietube)
-image was very grainy if compared to the movietube.

You are also comparing a $6000 adapter to a $1200 adapter. The Ultimate is a better comparison to the MovieTube Jr.

I don t have a big choice a need an adapter which has PL mount as an option, and Jr. doesn t has that.

So I think I ll buy the Ultimate and will rent the Movietube Lt until the Ultimate arrives.
I will be able to provide some side by side tests myself in the next 5 weeks.

Letus 2 movietube switcher

I b that guy who switched from Letus Extreme 2 Movietube jr.

I admit that both adapters are different in so many aspects that there's almost no comparing them.

One thing that hardly ever gets mentionned is the simple fact that the Movietube jr has no moving parts and no electronics. Which means: No (further) source of electronic/electric failure. What with all the hardware around our cameras, the harddrives, the monitors, the lights, etc.... this counts as a real blessing!

Setting the Focus on the Movietube jr is as simple as "Hello": Just set your camera to infinity focus, et voilà. That's it!

I'm sure Kinomatik must have understood by now the need for different lens mounts on the jr. That would be the only negative point I found on the adapter.

And the image is superb, comparable to the camera's own image without adapter, unlike the Letus extreme which has this, admittingly very film-like, grain. In my case it annoyed me more than it helped.

You mean there is no need to adjust backfocus right. I don't see any grain with my LEX, until I stop down to far...and that ain't like no film grain I ever seen at that point.
