Letus35 Flip Enhanced

What kind of adapter would I have to get to fit the Letus35 Flip Enhanced on my HVX. Thanks

Will the Letus35 Flip Enhanced work with the HVX200? I though there were noticable grain swirls. Please come back and post your experience once you get it working.

Haven't got out on a shoot with it yet but played around with it yesterday. There are only grain swirls that I can see if you dont turn it on. I will post more after I go on a real shoot on Thursday.

I've been doing a lot of tests with the Letus35 Flip Enhanced and here are some before and after shots to show the grain with the motor on and off. No color correction or filters where used.

Hi StormFactory,

Thank you very much for the pics! I'm thinking about picking up the Letus35 FE and doing a lot of research. But I have a few questions for you:

1. Are you happy with it?
2. Are you using it with any rods system or baseplate?
3. Are you using any mattebox?
4. I assume you're using the Letus35 with HVX? Any thoughts on it regarding the image?

Please advise! Thanks!

Hi Sunrisegull,

1.) Yes, I am extremely happy with it. Here are a few reason why.
- It is the best value of all the 35mm adapters. At $700 ready-to-shoot, it costs less than the popular competition. Screw it on to your camera and add your choice of Nikon or Canon FD lens and start shooting. Simple.
- It keeps the image with the correct orientation so you don't have to worry about looking at an upsidedown image or have to do equipment mods or flip monitors just to look at your image.
- It looses as much or less light than the M2 and it flips the image right-side up to boot. For less money.
- It is dead quiet. I don't know when it's one sometimes because it's so quiet.
- It gives a nice sharp image.
- Not having to correct the 180 flip of the Brevis, M2, SGPro, etc. is a huge time saver on your post production workflow. Import and edit. When I had my DIY 35mm adapter, flipping the footage in the timeline just to see what it looked like was a pain. A lot of needless rendering.

2.) I have enclosed a photo from earlier today of my set up. I am using indiRAILS which come with an adjustable baseplate and 35mm adapter support.

3.) No matte box. It would look cool, but I don't have a need for one yet.

4.) I was getting the HVX, but after doing some test with the DVX and the Letus, I think I'm just going to stick with this setup for now. After a ton of searching a research, I have come to the conclusion that the Letus35 Flip Enhanced and the LetutHD100 and LetusXL all have the same internal flip, ground glass, and motor so the images on high-def using the Letus35 Flip Enhanced on the HVX200 should be as good as they are on the LetusXL. You can see LetusXL footage shot with the XLH1 here http://www.letus35.com/page4.html at the bottom of the page. It's 1440x1080. And Disjecta has some other footage on here somewhere.

The only thing that I can think of off the top of my head that I would change about the Letus35 Flip Enhanced is adding an LED to the unit somewhere so that you know when the motor is on because the thing is so damn quiet and you can go through batteries quick leaving it on.

Hope this helps you make your decision. Maybe I'll put together all my research in one document or something for easy reference.

Thanks, StormFactory! Great setup! Are you using it with the Nikon lenses? Do you have any problem with the lens doesn't lock? BTW, which follow focus are you using?

Thanks!

I'm using the indiFOCUS from www.indifocus.com. Great product at a great price with amazing customer support. I'm using Canon lens, but you can use Nikon as well. The lens mount on the Letus is reversable. I haven't done it yet, but it looks easy enough. My Canon lenses lock into place.

The blue cable came with the indiRAILS. It is used to hold the adapter in place on the support arm. I need to adjust it. The red wire is coupled with a black wire and they power the Letus from the battery compartment that holds your two (2) double A batteries. You can get a better look at that in this picture.

its great that you use it with the dvx but we need to know about this adapter with the hvx the hvx is really nothing like the dvx, I mean the dvx was a substandard camera when it was new, it couldnt touch the XL camera, the hvx however the on the top of the prosumer mound.

In what ways it is substandard? Many award winning films were shot using the DVX and many people including myself was impressed with it's images when it first came out years ago. It is a different tool vs the XL2...but don't forget the DVX was out months before the XL2 made the scene. So be careful of such claims since the DVX made waves in the industry to help develop the HVX what it is today.
