letus35 extreme with HVX - image cropping

I recently got the chance to try out the letus 35 extreme with a nikon 85mm lens on my HVX.

this is the first time i've used a 35mm adapter...very exciting...

but...

when i zoom out on the HVX to reveal the whole matte of the ground glass etc..., the matte is off centre, so i have to crop the image considerably to avoid vignetting... In order to clear both side edges of the matte I'm cropping the image say 20%...

Is this normal, correctable???

Is it possible to have the full 35mm frame that I would see on a 35mm camera on my HVX.

I was really excited about shooting with the nikon 35mm f1.4... i love the look and feel of this lens on a stills camera, but If I have to crop to use it for video, it just won't feel the same... ofcourse i can shoot with a wider lens and the crop would get me back to something like the 35mm lens but I'm sure I'd lose something optically.

any thoughts...

thanks

My LEX is also off center, but this should not be a problem if you intend on shooting at academy frame.

Set up a piece of 8.5 x 11 paper on a wall. Pop on a 50mm lens, and focus it at 2 feet. This should fill your frame exactly right from side to side, this is when you know you have zoomed in enough on your camera to get academy frame.

I've worked with a few Extremes and I've never seen one off center (i.e. ground glass is shifted left or right) but I've had it where the ground glass looks like it's been rotated and won't line up. That's an easy fix - take the ring that attaches to the camera lens off the adapter, attach it independently to the camera and then loosely reattach the adapter to the ring, rotating it until the ground glass lines up properly and then secure.

If the ground glass is too far to the left or right, I'd get into contact with the place that sold you the unit. Having to settle for zooming in sucks. I believe the Extremes are covered under a one year warranty.

Decker, this is quite normal of all the LEX. Its more of a question of the camera zoomin in off axis to the placement of the GG. This is why its important for adapters to have an X and Y adjustment as no two cameras will zoom in to the exact same area.
