Letus - weird-looking spots on glass

So i've read about how particles and dust can get on to the ground glass, but i just purchased a used adapter on ebay that said had some "minor dust particles" inside.... BUT it looks like there's some sort of weird stains on the inside of the unit that I can't get to. Anyone ever seen this before? You can't really tell from the picture, but the weird looking dried-liquid stuff is on two different layers of glass inside. Great.... Right where I CAN'T reach. I'm going to call Letus tomorrow, but just wanted to check here first to see if anyone had any insights... or to see if i just got screwed buying a bad adapter. Thanks guys!

Snap. You got had.

But for real, someone is really wrong for selling you that with the terribleness. YOu can remove that piece of glass VERY CAREFULLY by rolling your fingers around hte rubber and tugging until it comes loose.

Then proceed to clean with a delicate cloth, or a Lens cloth. Sorry you go a unit tat looks like that!

becareful!!! There might be a dead bird inside...that would explain the poo poo on the lens.

Im not supposed to say this, after being at the letus headquarters but...they use an electronically controlled dead humming bird instead of a ground glass, the wings flap so fast that you see the projected image from the lens. Thats how they only lose 1/2 of a stop... They must have used the wrong voltage or something to get it to sh!t like that though.

bwahahahahaha quote of the week for me.

Damn. This sucks. When you say "rolling your fingers around the rubber and tugging until it comes loose".... what rubber piece? its all metal and glass inside.

it's the extreme model. the first one that came out with the red light in the front, but without the cool-looking "letus extreme" logo etched in.

Cool. That's what i figured. I'll call them in the morning and post up what the good man tells me. Hopefully, it can be fixed.... otherwise I've just been majorly hosed.

Thanks Kholi!

Just a guess, but I think a little disassembly, a cleanup and you'll be ok. Shame on the seller for hiding that though. Bad feedback for him, for sure...

Clearly, the original owner took the "Adapter Psychology" thread too seriously....

Hope you lit this guy's feedback.

i think someone got a little to excited when his adapter arrived.

Haha!! That's exactly what I thinking it was at first.

But I haven't left any feedback yet. Waiting to see if this can be fixed, plus the guy has offered to have it paid to be fixed (if need be), and if it can't, he'll do a full refund.... so no need to blast him.... yet, at least.

Speaking of which, i need to call Letus now.........

So I just got off the phone with Letus and they said that the model i have is a DEMO unit and he didn't know how it got on the market. Weird, huh? but according to him, the achromat on this DEMO model is all sealed up, unlike the latest version where i guess you're able to unscrew that part, so unfortunately, this adapter cannot be cleaned. SUCKS! BUT, the buyer has offered to refund me the money, so we'll see how that goes. i'll keep you all posted. I just hope I get my money back... and i wanted to use the adapter for a project next weekend. DAMN!!

Btw, the Letus customer service is awesome! i love that guy! =)

That mess on the glass is what happens when you use canned air and turn the can upside down. It makes one heck of a mess.

I too am curious as to where the demo unit came from. We did have one go "missing" and I wondered if it would eventually show up on ebay or in some pawn shop with Billy Bob Joe asking what kind of rifle scope it was.

Hey Philip! Love your visuals man!! Great work!

DeGrey - that's what i figured, too. It's great when people don't even know how to use a compressed air can. =p
