Letus servicing... the horror... the horror..

So my Letus purchased at B&H in January needs servicing. I lost three days of filming as the red light was on but the Letus ground glass vibrated improperly or not at all.

I'm in Europe so I have a 8 hour time difference with Letus Direct.

B&H tells to me check with Letus.

I call the main Letus office in Wichita. They tell me they don't handle any Letus product not purchased directly from them. They refer me to the Portland Office.

I call Portland in the evening to try to catch them (9 hour time difference). Line busy. I tried all night. Line busy.

The next day I call Portland again. Line Busy. I send them a Ticket.

Days go by. No response to the ticket.

I call Wichita again. They tell me to leave my number and they will forward it to Portland. I leave my number.

Does anybody call back? Of course not.

I call Wichita again and they give me a second Portland number.

I call Portland again with the new number. The phone rings. Nobody picks up.

I call Wichita. I leave a message. Nobody calls back.

Meanwhile days go by and we have to rend a Letus at 100 Euros a day.

I don't know what kind of show these Letus guys are running but thid is just ridiculous especially if one considers I can't get the Letus fixed anywhere else.

If Anybody has any insight into the way one needs to proceed to get a Letus fixed, please let me know before I really get upset.

Thank you.

Fix it yourself, it´s no rocket science.

Annoying? Sure, but before you fork out 100 Euros a day...

thats not much of a solution, the thing costs enough, and has been around long enough that you shouldn't have to play with the insides yourself.

They are hand made and still very "cottage". Also the company is very small and seems to have problems with customer service (I've never had a problem and have sent mine in to be serviced a few time). The company is in Portland and not Wichita (they are just a reseller i.e. B&H). The best way is to email and also call. I've never had a problem calling, but some have. Don't be surprised if they tell you to open it up and try something before sending it. Also the turnaround time to Europe might be awhile. Being a kit (I know it costs alot but thats specialized equipment?) I always had spares for shooting (GG, rubber feet, etc.) and if I was really making money before I switched to my 5D I would have bought a second for a B-roll/ redundancy as all of these adapters have glitches at the wrong time.

My 2-bits

I believe Letus Direct also handles repair since I've submitted ticket and troubleshooted with Aaron before.

Wichita will only handle units puchased from them directly. Everybody else goes to Portland into the Black Hole of servicing.

If I don't get somebody on the phone today or tomorow I will start to believe LETUS is a scam product like ACN.

You've been on a crusade for the past week, starting over a half dozen thread ON THE SAME SUBJECT. It's almost like beating a dead horse at this point.

1) Yes, you got a bum unit. It happens. Many Letus users including myself had had no problems. Even major manufacturers like Canon, Panasonic etc. can put out faulty units once in a while. Ever try to get a camera serviced by Canon when there's a grand total of TWO repair center in the entire US?
2) Yes, you hate using adapters. Buy a 7D and stop complaining about it.
3) Yes, you couldn't get your adapter serviced. Who knows why but many of us had no trouble getting a reply or quick service from Letus.

Chalk it up to an unfortunately experience and move on.

I'm sympathetic to Huy on this. The complaint that its sometimes hard to get in touch with Letus, is valid ( its happened to me), but its a tiny company and I have no idea why you thought they were in Wichita. .

However my Sony EX-1 went on the blink the other day. You try calling Sony Service and getting a straight answer about either what the hell went wrong or when the hell you'll ever get it back. Not to mention selling units with defective back focus for 3 months before users began to notice it, or lenses that can't be closed past f8 without them telling you its defectively soft in that range. Is Sony not a professional company?
Despite that I'm still using Sony cameras, and I'll buy another. Its all part of the business. You didn't do your homework about the gear you were using + your unit went down - bad luck - so get another one. It happens, but stop bashing these guys.
