Letus Nikon Mount

Hi,

I just received my Letus Mini with the Nikon mount. I realised the Nikon mount is in 2 parts (see attached photo). The half that mounts to the lens is threaded while the other half to the Letus is not. And both halves do not seem to fit each other. Do you fit the Nikon mount half directly to the Letus? If so, the threaded portion seems too short to have a secured fit on the Letus.

Has anyone encountered this with their Nikon Mount? Can someone advise?

Thanks

Just this week I had a Nikon lens fall off the LEX while attached to the mount. Luckily I was on a grass lawn but did catch the lens with one hand.

I e.mailed Hien who got back to me immediately. The mount is supposed to be a 'friction' fit. He said I was the only one in 1K units sold to report a failure. He suggested that I use epoxy to secure the mount to the collar which attaches to the LEX with the three allen set screws, which I did.

I don't believe I'll have this problem again. To be safe - I'd suggest you do the same.

I have to say that Hien has been great with customer service. I moved up from a FE model to the LEX and couldn't be happier with the incredibly sharp results!

Thanks Scott. Mine was delivered to me in a single piece but came apart as i tightened the lense on the mount. I was considering securing both using set screws. Would not want the lense to come off with frequent use and the "wearing" of the friction.

For some reason I have been having hard times with my customer service for Letus. I sent out my FE for a repair back on Feb 4 or 5th and just finally got an e-mail back yesterday, after sending multiple e-mails out requesting any information about my adapter, if it even made it to them. The e-mail Hien sent me said he hasn't seen the adapter around. So far I am pretty frustrated, but i hope things turn out well.

Good luck with your nikon mount (to the topic starter).

Sounds like Scott's not actually the only one to have this problem. You should email Hien about this, clive, so he knows it may be a bigger issue than one in 1,000 units

Hey, guys, listen up, this is a tip from a frenchman, so worth what it's worth, and since i'm french i personaly wouldn't take it for granted, but using super-glue or epoxy and all that on temperature-sensitive different brid of metal may result in permanent brain damage...i mean if the too trustworthy not-so-sticky trick snatches free and you hurt your head against something hard while diving for your lens.

Now, seriously, one thing you may want to consider trying, is to cut a narrow slice of bicycle tube to use it as a very tight and strong piece of rubber to { { { not replace } } } but reinforce the job of the friction to help these two items stick together.

A cheap fix that may sound silly, but that's how i kept an older SLR working for years, after dropping it doing stunt-work and breaking the film holder. The tube will need to be nicely cut to stretch a lot, but it WILL help these two parts fuse one in another, without involving any possibly damaging gluing or anything.

PS: I don't own an Extreme yet but only heard amazing things about them and am planning to get one. So your question came right on time, since i shoot Nikon and going to prepare my own 2cts rubber band !

And in regard to this fantastic piece of gear and piece of gear, only, the smaller the diameter the better because it's gotta be very tight.
