Hey guys,
How much do you think I can sell my used Letus Extreme for? With Letus 45 cm rods, and a Nikon mount.

Also where is the best place to sell? Or should I use all the major outlets (ebay, craigslist, dvxuser)?

Well, with CL and DVXuser, you name your price and hold out until you get it. With Ebay, you never know what you're going to get. For which camera is your Letus optimized? Sadly, these things seem to be taking a price beating in the used market with the popularity of DSLRs.
 
I also have a Letus Extreme with a nikon mount. No rods though. Im thinking about selling mine for about $800 with a standard 50mm lens.
 
im seeing letus extremes go for as little as 200.00 bucks. they were an overpriced item to begin with. In fact, I think most all dof adapters were over priced, for the most part. the makers made a killing the first few years they were popular. now there a dime a dozen.

I honestly still love the look of a dof adapter in front of a hvx,ex1, or xha1. I still think they have a more filmic look than the DSLR'S. There something pleasing to my eye about a nice Ground glass and the bokah it produces with certain lenses in front of it. It's just their a pain in the ass to shoot with in low light. It gets old lugging huge light kits around, and takes much longer to light a scene than with a dslr. I dont know I would sell it if I were you. Im holding on to mine for the time being. I want to do some side by side tests with a dof rig, compared to the af100. To see which has a more filmic all around look. We know who wins in low light though.

I try not to think to much about all the new things that come up, but instead use what I got. It has worked great this far, why wouldn't it continue working?

Plus, a camera with an adapter gives you much more options to play with. If you need to do some interviews, take the adapter off and there you go, a perfect camcorder. If you want the filmic/dslr look, just put the adapter on.

With a DSLR you're stuck with a camera that gives you only one of those things, without any XLR inputs just to meniton one of the things...
 
Yeah DSLRs are the gamechanger. Really killed the price on the DOF adapters. I know that, but I also feel like they're still valuable. Especially for people who do both live videography (sans-DOF), and artistic projects (with DOF). I also agree that it has a more filmic look than the DSLRs I've worked with. Unfortunately, the DSLRs allure in price and quality is hard to pass up. Hoping to sell my Letus Extreme for $500 with rails. It's optimized for my HMC 150, which I'm also parting with.

Adaptors will never die.

The DSLR look and the adaptor look are not the same. The DSLR looks sharp and contrasty. The adaptor look has this organic tone and is less contrasty. The adaptor look is much smoother than the harsh DSLR look. Film has imperfections which the adaptor emulates such as grain and emulssion noise. DSLR looks perfect like digital video. Therefore the adaptor gives you more of that 16mm film look while the DSLR gives you the high end video look.

The new Panasonic camera is also closer to video than the adaptor rig. I filmed a theatrical movie with an adaptor rig and there is nothing video-ish about it. It feels organic. If I had filmed this with a DSLR it would have looked like one of these HD Zacuto videos. That's not the look I was going for.

Bottom line, if you want an organic film feeling... keep the adaptor.
 
A 35mm adaptor should never give you any extra grain. If it does, something is wrong, either you're using to fast shutter speed or the motor is vibrating/spinning to slow:)
