Letus Extreme rig photos

I love DVX's... nice rig, just need the handles.

What lens is that? It's a zoom right?

Zoom, yes. Sigma 20-40mm f2.8, I'm VERY fond of it. And I got it for a great price, B&H Photo used for $315. A great low cost high quality alternative to the more popular Nikon 17-35.

..and an other rig.

(yeah, bad photos - I know)

I got 2 of those handy lens supports (last picture).
One goes into the LEX´s thread the other one is for large lenses.

2 of my Zeiss middleformat lenses got a thread for that reason.
For all other lenses the supports have 2 ball bearings or rolls.
It is not THAT tight with those bearings, but you can even support the part that is turning.

I love the lighting Frank. Very German. :D

It was not ment that way.... but yeah ;-)

Actually I was just too lazy to set up some lights and used what came into my library.

I changed the setup a bit and post some more pics soon.

Just got my Letus Extreme today, couldn't be happier. I love it. I've got a pretty basic setup, just the LEX, a DVX100B, some rails, and a handful of lenses, but I'm happy. What I really need now is a decent tripod. I've spent enough on lenses and other equipment, anyone have any recommendations for a good, not too pricey, tripod? Even just the head? Anyway, here are my rig pics.

Just some ordinary Cavision MiniDV rails. Relatively inexpensive but still delivers the goods. Although I will most likely need longer rails down the road when I add a follow focus and mattebox.

hey, how's that viewfinder?
Hi, it works fine.
It's an adapted B/W Sony CRT vf. It gets it's video signal from the Y/C plug of the HVX, an additional Sony battery is for the power and in a magic box at one side of the viewfinder, the voltage is converted from 7,2V of the battery to 12V. You can really use it as a shoulder camera.

Weijan:

Seeing your beautiful rig perched on that cheap Manfrotto still head is making me nervous. I have that same head in my stills kit for my D300 and with a video camera, especially one as heavy as you have is an accident watiing to happen. No lock off and no counterbalance on that head.

Be careful and buy a real tripod for that thing! ;-)

Believe it or not it was great for still shots, rock solid, I made sure (at the time when it was all I could afford) to get one that could take a max load of about 20 lbs. My only real problem with it was that I couldn't pan or tilt smoothly to save my life (and I have really steady hands).

So I have upgraded. Since those pics I now have a Manfrotto 503HDV beneath my DVX/LEX.

But thanks for the concern. ;)

Whew, thank goodness. I have almost had my still cameras tip over on my with that head when I have forgotten to lock it and walked away so seeing your majestically huge rig perched on it just seemed wrong.

I checked out the new 503HDV over at Film Tools the other day. All I will say is that they have made it suck a lot less than the original 503, it's better and not too bad for a dirt cheap head. I have client who bought five of them (the original 503s) and they are junk and I am forced to shoot with them all of the time. I had to take one to Scotland last year when I was shooting landscapes and monuments and I messed up a lot of great shots because of the old 503. It seems that Bogen finally got a clue that people were dissatisfied with the old 501 and 503 heads. It's no Sachtler, but the new ones are decidedly better.

Enjoy!
