Letus Extreme: accurate focus with camera LCD screen?

I would like to use the Letus Extreme primarily for shooting interviews with shallow depth of field - head to belly button stuff - strictly static situations, both indoors and out. Primary cameras would be the Canon XH-A1 and DVX 100B.

I've searched this and other forums and understand that in general, an external monitor is highly recommended. But if one is careful and takes time, is it possible achieve accurate focus in these situations using only the LCD screen in combination with what ever focusing aid each camera offers?

Thanks in advance for any opinions!

Disjecta can do it just fine and I do well with just the onboard.

Can't hurt to have an external, though. Just take your time and get to know the camera.

And eat whatever vegetables help your eyesight. :D

or just measure your focus according to the distance of your subject. the ol'fashioned way

That would be easy, however you have to consider that SLR lenses aren't marked for that type of work. Arri mount (PL) does just fine.
