Letus 35a

I'm thinking about picking up an adaptor just to mess with it for B camera stuff for a documentary.

Does anyone have any experience with the 35a? It's an older model, but I can pick one up for a couple of hundred bucks.

All I'd be using it for would be to give static exteriors and interiors a more interesting look.

I shoot with a DVX100b.

Thanks,

Brad

i used one for one day, they are good adapter for there time, I remember it getting dust and dirt into a lot and it being pretty slow compared to my buds old brevis. If i where you, pick up a used brevis for like $650 or $700 and be good forever, or just spend a k and get an sgpro or letus extreme

No adapter is good forever. They all have little parts that need replacing or units that need to be sent back for repair. That's part of the game. I've seen it with the brevis, sgpro, redrock, and letus.

from what i've gathered from the internet the 35a loses "slightly over one stop of light"

i used to own one. sold it at the start or the year and got an sgpro.

there is about 1/2 to 3/4 of a stop of light loss with a f1.4 lens from memory. but then you need to zoom in on your camera so your aperture max ends up at around 2 to 2.4 so keep that in mind.

it's a good little adapter, i shot a few shorts on it, but it is by no means a professional one.. it's not in the same league as the LEX, SGpro, Brevis, M2 etc.

there are problems with it.. the edge sharpness is crap. and it gets worse with wide angle lenses.. so if you like things that aren't in the center of the picture to be in focus... then you've got a problem.

it vignettes really badly with wide angle lenses. though my 35mm f1.4 didn't vignette at all...

it's vibration it pretty slow... so when you shoot outside you can't stop down past about f2.8 otherwise you get this swirly effect in your picture.. and there is just the general (not unpleasing) grain that shows up on all your pictures.

the nikon mount doesn't lock the lenses in place.. you have to gaffa them on. it's not hard but it's a pain. the FD mount is all good though i think.

so if you're just mucking about and making your own shorts then the letus35a is ok. but if you shoot other peoples shorts or want to do something professional. then skip the letus35a and get a pro one.

al i meant by that is if he where to get the 35a, he is really stuck there forever, with a brevis you can even upgrade the old ones with the new mods, just saying that. I think we are all under the same agreement of looking for something more than the 35a

Thanks for the info, guys! There was a guy I know who was selling a good condition used one with three lenses for $250. I thought about buying it just to use as a practice adapter until I had enough money to afford a real one.
