letus 35 flip question

i've rcently owned the red rock 35 and loved the image once set up properly but im close to getting another adapter.my question is could steve dempsy or anyone who has the canon a1 and the letus flip tell me how the edge to edge sharpness and vignetting is on this set up and how would it compare to the sgpro and m2 in overall sharpness and vignetting?

stevens letus footage looked prettyy good to me. Though there was a bit of drop off at the edges.

In configuring the Letus35 Flip Enhanced for proper framing and use with the HVX200 I found very little edge dropoff, and very solid edge-to-edge sharpness.

Problem is, most people won't want to zoom in that far, they seem to want some hyper-exaggerated shallow depth of field effect. If you don't zoom in far enough, you'll have vignetting and soft edges. What you really want to do is use a 50mm lens, and frame a piece of paper horizontally about 2' away from the lens, then set your zoom such that the piece of paper is just filling your screen. When you get to that point you're pretty much matching the field of view one would encounter on a 35mm movie camera. With my L35FE and HVX I found that point at Z44.0 mm, don't know how you'd tell on an A1.

hi tim,did you see any vigneting and in your opinion would consider the letus to be as close to sharpness of your sgpro then to the m2?i would have been gotten the sg but this time around i'm considering somethin a little more less hasle in terms of the image being fliped.

hi barry,i'm wondering would this same thin apply to my a1 how about grain on the footage? versus the other adapters?

The Letus seemed to be ok in terms of vingetting. Though the M2 does have a more pronounced vingette because of its GG material. The letus seemed to about inbetween the Sgpro and the M2 in terms of vingetting. The Sgpro having none, and the m2 having some.

I need HELP....BAD.

Guys (and/or Gals),

I'm buying an XHA1, and I have the money to get an adapter, and after seeing Steve's work, I'm pretty sure I want the Letus Flip, but can you focus using the eyepiece/viewfinder or do you absolutely NEED an HD monitor? I don't really want to spend another $2,000 or more on a monitor just for focus. Also, does Letus offer rails? Or is the adapter light enough not to damage the camera or become to front heavy? I'm really REALLY new at this adapter thing. Also, what kind of lenses am I looking at purchasing? I have heard that I need prime. And I do NOT need an extremely shallow depth of field. I kind of like the look of Steve's footage using the Nikon 28mm, but I can't find it available anywhere.

HELP!

90% of your questions can be answered by reading the 5 stickies at the top of the 35 adpter forum.

I watched the short tutorial and it was really good, but didn't tell me anything I didn't know. I have a degree in film, but we focused heavily on actual film, so the whole adapter thing is out of my element, hence my inquiries. I appreciate all the information though. I guess I've just read many places that some people have a hard time focussing using the Letus Adapter on the A1, and then Steven Dempsey said he didn't have problems. Also, I wasn't sure if primse lenses were the way to go or not. These are all questions that I couldn't find in the stickies. If they're there, I'd love to see. Thanks for everything though.

just treat it like a film camera, with an ISO of 160. Shoot and light accordingly.
