Letus 35 extreme HELP!!!

Hi there DVX users, im in massive need of help and i dont know who to run to.
Is it possible if you guys can help me out...

Basically, ive been looking into the idea of using a 35mm adapter for my Sony HVR-V1E camera and im not too sure which one to buy. Im also confused about all things such as the mounts... ive been reading up and looking at a lot of videos that help out but im still confused about a few things.

Ive been looking into purchasing the letus35 extreme which is priced fairly well to me. Does this adapter give good results?? From the videos ive looked at, the adapter seems to work well. But will it work well with my Sony HVR-V1E camera?

Im more confused with many of the specifications that i would be getting. What are the mounts for? such as Canon FD mount? improved nikon mount??? are they the mount for the adapter to be fitted to the camera or the adapter to the lens? For my camera, which mount would i go for??

At the moment the only lenses i have are two Nikon D40X lenses which came with my DSLR camera, can these be used with the letus35 extreme? One is a 18-55mm AF-S Nikkor and the other is a 55-200mm AF-S Nikkor.

What is a step up step down adapter ring and where can this be purchased??

I know that if i purchase the adapter, i have to also purchase a rod to hold the adapter and camera together. What are Red Couplers?

Writing this has made me even more confused, haha.

Im sorry for asking some silly questions but i just wanted to be sure about all of this stuff. Thanks so much for help :engel017:

The Extreme would probably work just fine with your Sony, but be aware that the Sony you're using is a very light-hungry camera. Adding any adapter to it is going to make filming in available light quite challenging. You're going to need to light your scenes adequately.

The mounts refer to what type of lenses you can use with the adapter.

Step-up or step-down rings are designed to match your lens threads with the adapter's mounting threads. B&H sells 'em pretty cheap.

And red couplers are basically screws that let you extend the length of the rod. Letus use them on their rod and it's quite nice to have when breaking down the rig for travel. If you want to use those two lenses you'll need a Nikon mount, preferably the new one.

You'll also need a follow focus system and an AC to pull focus.

Wow. thanks for the reply guys.

Yes your very right, lighting on the camera is quite difficult already. I usually use no gain aswell so im going to need even more light with the adapter on.

Is there an option to get the step up step down ring from the letus website?
Would i need one for my camera to the letus35 extreme adapter?
My sony HVR V1E camera lense reads Carl Zeiss 1,6/3,9-78 T*

So my best bet is getting the 45cm and 15cm with red couplers? What is the benefit of getting the 45cm and 15cm with red couplers compared to the 30cm and 15cm with red couplers?

You'll also need a follow focus system and an AC to pull focus.

What is this for? Where can i get it from? is this useful?

And there seems to be two websites that are selling Letus35 extremes :

www.adapterplace.com

www.letusdirect.com

which is better and safer to order from?

and what is the Camera Optimization Kit & Thread Size??

thanks for the help guys :)

A follow focus, like this one, is used to pull focus on the side of the camera when you have a 1st Assistant Camera. It's incredible important because DOF is so short that if the camera moves (or the actors move) just a bit, they go out of focus. So you need an FF to pull focus from one point to the other and someone to pull it for you. Without an FF, you can forget about doing tracking shot, dolly shot or even just have the actor walk toward or away from the camera.

Both websites are run by Letus. You can order from either.

The camera optimization kit is only if you have an HVX or EX1; it improves edge to edge sharpness. Haven't seen anyone use a Letus on a V1E, so I don't know how the image will come out.

I don't think anyone mentioned this, but your lenses aren't going to work with one of these adapters. I'm pretty sure both of the lenses you have are strictly digital, and so you do not have a manually adjustable iris. Which means when the lenses are NOT on your digital SLR body, they are permanently stopped down to I think f22. You WILL need to invest in other lenses, there are a TON of threads on this site you can search through to find what's best for you.

See i was going to mention that they didnt have f stops hehe.

Thanks for telling me that. however, the lenses have buttons for automatic and manual. What about switching it to manual, would it then open the f stops? or will it still not work?

No, it will not. Switching it to manual simply allows you to manually adjust the focus. You'll need to invest in lenses with manual irises, or at least optionally manual irises, also, if you hadn't read anywhere else yet, you'll need some fairly bright lenses as well. Nothing slower than f2.8 typically.

Investing in one of these 35mm adapters costs a lot more than simply the adapter, lol, it's something we've all come to learn.

Best wishes.
