Letterboxed to widescreen

Heyall.
Has anyone ever, or does anyone know, if you can take 4:3 footage, letterboxed in post, or footage shot with the DVX in letterboxed mode, and then create a full 16x9 DVD from it where it fits a 16x9 television and does not show the black bars?

You can open your footage in a widescreen project...then resize it. I's very similar to shooting in squeeze mode.

A better option might be to use a plug-in like Red Giant's Instant HD, or something similiar.

So I guess the answer would be Yes, you can make a 16x9 DVD from 4x3 footage.

I'm using FCP 4.5. I've read about the Instant HD. If it works the ways it claims it does it might extend the life of my DVX considerably.
By the by, thanks for replies.

Instant HD looks interesting. Does anyone know if it is better to use Instant Hd if you are not going to HD only stretching your 4x3 to 16x9?

Sacksnack is correct but like squeez mode you will loose resolution and soften the image.

Here is a tutorial on using Photozoom Pro to uprez the video to 16:9 without bars.

Using Compressor, choose an appropriate 16x9 option to create an m2v file. In the preview window, crop the black bars out and then the output should be what you're looking for.

In Vegas, it's a no brainer. Set project to widescreen DV, drop 4:3 video into timeline, crop accordingly using pan/crop settings, render to widescreen MPEG2, done! (And yes, of course, image quality suffers, and watch out for the funky things that can happen when resizing interlaced footage).

What's the deal on InstantHD? Are its uprezzing algorithms any better than, say, Photoshop's bicubic mode? Or does it do some kind of interframe prediction?

Somethin i wanna know... I use PPro 2.0, so then you open sqeeze mode footage in a widescreen project? What do you set teh pixel aspect ratio to when exporting? 0.9?

Everyone just says resize etc... but resize in what a 4:3 project? and crop? i'm confused.
