Letterbox Question

Hey Again,

is there a letterbox effect in vegas 5 or 6? I can't find one in 5. the problem I'm having is that I've done magic bullet work and it messed up my letterbox on some of the shots, and rather than building my own letterboxes, I'd rather have an effect I can just drop in there. Any hints?

You're much better off not shooting in letterbox mode. As you saw, any effect you add to the clips will change the letterboxing, and you're also giving up 25% of the picture which could be useful for reframing, etc..

I always shoot full-frame and crop later. It's a much better way of doing things.

Yes

Definitely don't use letterbox mode. Do what David said... shoot full frame and change it in post... If you need guidelines so you know what part of the image will be cut off, use tape to mark it or get guidelines from EVS (www.evsonline.com) or www.aspectcorrect.com... I use the aspect correct ones and I LOVE them...
As David said, doing it in post is useful for reframing, post production camera movement, vertical camera shake/bump, and all that fun stuff.
Don't limit yourself by shooting letterbox.
All the best,

All suggestions are OK especially the AspectCorrect one!
Anyway I made a custome letterbox effect for Vegas with Photoshop featuring 1 black bars and the white middle.
Just import the file [jpg] on a upper video track and then make transparent the white part with the chromakey effect and you habe two black bars.
Fit them to the footage with the pan crop size tool at voila!
